Episode 2: The Mystery Beneath the Lawn

Down, down, down went Emil, climbing into the glowing hole with a few of his new worm friends close behind. The deeper they went, the warmer and brighter it became, until at last the narrow tunnel opened up — and Emil's mouth fell wide open.

A whole world spread out below him! Enormous caves stretched in every direction, their ceilings sparkling with glowing crystals like tiny underground stars.

"Welcome to the inside of our planet," said a cheerful voice. It belonged to a worm in a little explorer's cap and scarf, carrying a swinging lantern. "I'm Tom, the scout worm. I know every tunnel and turn down here. Stick with me and I'll show you everything!"

And what a place it was! As Tom led the way, Emil discovered that the caves were full of cozy shops, lined up along a winding cobblestone street just like a normal town. There was a bakery, a hat shop, and a lantern shop, all sized perfectly for worms. Friendly faces popped out of doorways to wave at the little astronaut from the stars.

"This way — you'll like this," said Tom, wiggling with excitement. He brought Emil to a charming little restaurant, glowing warm with candlelight. Behind the counter sat the most wonderful cakes Emil had ever seen: tall ones, round ones, cakes dusted with sparkly sugar and dripping with berry icing.

"Worms do love their cake," Tom admitted with a giggle. Emil's tummy rumbled, and the worms laughed kindly and promised him a slice — later, after the tour.

They wandered on, past glowing gardens and bubbling streams, until they came to a grand building carved right into the rock. Above its door, in curly worm-letters, were the words: MUSEUM.

"Our museum!" Tom said proudly. "It keeps all the oldest, most precious treasures of our world."

But something was wrong. Outside the museum, a worm was wriggling in great distress, waving frantically, eyes wide with worry.

"Stolen!" the worm cried. "Our most important artifact — gone! Vanished in the night!"

Emil hurried over. "What was it?" he asked gently. "What did the artifact look like?"

The worried worm sniffled. "It was a small... brown... thing," he said. "Round and smooth, kept safe for as long as anyone can remember. The most precious treasure in all our caves — and now it's missing."

Emil thought hard. A small, round, brown thing. He had a funny feeling he might know what it was — though the worms clearly had no idea. Could it be a seed? he wondered. But he kept the thought to himself for now.

Instead, Emil stood up tall, put on his bravest face, and said:

"Don't worry, my friends. I'll help you find it. We'll solve this mystery together!"

Tom the scout worm grinned and raised his lantern high. The hunt was about to begin.
